Alana’s fearless spirit was born into this world on October 7, 1988 and left us too soon on April 18, 2021.
Raised in Calgary, Alana graduated from Mount Royal University where she explored her passion for science and conservation and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. Throughout her life, Alana advocated for environmental conservation and planted over one million trees across British Columbia as a part of the annual reforestation initiative.
Alana’s authenticity, sense of humor, and kind soul was celebrated and adored by all of those who knew her. Whether you followed the adventures of “Carl”, supported her small business, saved our planet together, or simply had the delight of sharing a laugh, Alana was a beautiful gift to us all.
Alana is survived by her mom, Deb Heald and stepfather Brian Heald; brother Taylor Marcus; sister Pamela Austin (Stephen); partner Spencer Burgess (and his daughter Nora); grandparents Bill and Muriel Gillott; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Alana’s life’s work and passion, please make a donation to Tree Canada (https://treecanada.ca/main-donation-form/) in her honor. In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the family will not be hosting a public service but encourages all that knew and loved Alana to celebrate her life in their own way.
