Alasdair Fergusson, born in Glasgow, Scotland, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the age of 78 years of complications from dementia. His distressing decline during more than 4 weeks in the Peter Lougheed Centre was watched with sadness by Helen Isaac, his wife of almost 32 years, who visited him every day. The doctors on Unit 53 were wonderful.
Alasdair worked as a geologist and was active in the CSPG many years ago, winning two Tracks awards. He was known for many years as the Chief of Race for the Lake Louise Loppet and his legacy is the vastly improved cross-country ski trails in the Lake Louise area. As a volunteer with the Calgary Ski Club he also coordinated the grooming and track setting of Shaganappi Point Golf Course as a service to the cross-country skiing public.
During the last few years, Alasdair endured declining mobility while Alzheimer’s Disease robbed him of his passion, drive and energy. Alasdair will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held for Alasdair at Pierson’s Funeral Service (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
