Smith, Allan Merrill July 14, 1932 – January 15, 2014 It is with deepest regret we wish to inform you of Al’s passing on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. He is survived by his wife Lynne and son JR of Calgary, his younger brother Gordon and his wife Margaret of Prince George, BC., sister-in-law Sheila Smith of New Westminster, BC., and brother-in-law Gordon Bodholdt of Bjorkdale, SK., six nieces and one nephew. Al was born on July 14, 1932 in Saskatoon, SK. He moved with his family to Prince Albert, SK. in 1942. Al attended the University of Saskatchewan with two majors: Commerce and hockey, where he played with his older brother Ron. Al worked in the Automotive Parts Industry for 40 years in sales, marketing and management. He was an active Kinsman and K-40 member. Since retiring, Al volunteered at the Calgary Food Bank for 15 years. Al was predeceased by his parents Alice and Jack Smith, sister Lorna Bodholdt, brother Ron Smith and nephew Doug Smith. Al has requested there be no funeral nor memorial service. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Calgary Food Bank or a charity of one’s choice. In memory of Al, a bench has been reserved in the wet lands area of North Glenmore Park. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca.
