Angie Atagan, beloved sister and aunt, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 21, 2022 in Calgary, Alberta Canada at the age of 86 years.
Angie was born on February 20, 1935 in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, Philippines. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Philippine Union College in 1960, Angie began the next chapter in her life as a nurse in Glendale Hospital California, moving on to Toronto Ontario and eventually settling as one of the early Filipino Pioneers in Calgary Alberta. Her generosity and love for her family shined as she began the long process of sponsorship of her siblings to Canada. Angie had a love for baking and an incredible talent to crochet, which resulted in many awards from the Calgary Stampede in the early 60s. Her true passion was traveling. She has traveled extensively around the world, a life experience that she has always held with a sense of pride. Angie will be lovingly missed by those who love her and those whose lives were touched by her.
Angie is survived by her two brothers, Herman (Leila) Atagan and Delfin (Julie) Atagan of Calgary; and three sisters Anita (Tomas) Parreno of Campbell River, BC, Jocelyn (Jun) Plana and Haide (Wini) Gemoto both of Calgary. She was also survived by her beloved nephews and nieces whom she loved as her own children. Ralph (Abigail) Diotay, Ricky Diotay, Melbin Atagan, Angie Lynn (Polo, Polline, Polo Jr.) Garsula, Aziel (Melchor, Gabrielle) Gendran, Arziela (Ramel,Maya, Matteo) Varona, Herlan (Cora, Haydn, Caspian, Holden) Atagan, Heather (Joel, Ariana, Roman)Atagan/Thorarinson, Blanche (Brandon, Hana, Elijah) Atagan/Calder, Jonelle (Uche) Atagan-Okpalugo, Shaun (Hajung) Parreno, Megan (Greg, Mika) Kapiniak, Jet (Hazel, Addison, Nori) Plana, Shane (Amber) Gemoto. Angie was predeceased by her parents Rafael and Gaudiosa Atagan, her two brothers Benedicto (Melita) Atagan, Romeo (Jean) Atagan and sister Teresita (Arturo) Diotay.
A Graveside Service for Angie will take place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in the Heritage Garden (1605 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Monday January 24, 2022 at 11:00am.
