With deep sadness, the family of Arletta Cook announce her sudden and unexpected passing on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 80 years.
Arletta was much loved and is survived by her beloved husband, Ray, much loved daughter Michelle and son Ian (Lorna), and her cherished grandchildren, Kieran, Kristin, and Braden.
Born on July 1, 1943, on the Island of Madeira, Portugal, where Arletta was raised until she emigrated to England at the age of 20. Arletta worked as a nanny to two families, and had a very short stint working in Llandudno, Wales in the hotel hospitality industry.
Arletta eventually met and then married her husband on December 4, 1970, in London. In 1972, the couple emigrated to Canada, settling in Calgary, AB, and raised their two children in the heart of the Rocky Mountains.
Arletta worked in the culinary department at SAIT, her only employer in Canada, until her retirement.
Her true joys were her family. Raising her two children, caring for her husband, and most especially showing her love through her amazing cooking. Arletta truly enjoyed feeding those she cared about. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and enjoyed the time spent with them.
Arletta loved going out to Kananaskis for picnics, and to nobody’s surprise, packed enough food and gear for a weekend of camping. Picnics were full of family, laughter, good food and hidden liquor.
Arletta always had a smile on her face, no matter what difficulties she may have been facing, and was the kindest, sweetest person. She was always one to help those around her. Arletta will be deeply missed by all of us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Pierson’s Funeral Home (4121 17 Ave SE Calgary) at 11:00 MST on Friday, December 1, 2023, with a reception to follow in Airdrie, hosted by Ian and Lorna.
We will be reading condolence messages during the celebration, therefore, we encourage anyone interested, to leave a message about our beloved Arletta, for her family to share.
The service will be live streamed on Zoom for our family and friends in England, Wales, Madeira, and Australia at the following link:
