Barbara Joan Abbs-Holtby

Barbara Schetrom passed away in Foothills Hospital on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the age of 58 years.

Barb was born a fighter, born with hip problems she was determined to overcome every challenge that was thrown at her, and she did. Barb loved watching her children play hockey, you always knew she was in the stands because she was always loudly cheering. She was the first person to start a fundraiser for our hockey events or school. She loved her bingo, if she wasn’t with her children at home or their hockey games that’s where you would find her. She loved everyone around her. everyone would call her mom, she was everybody’s mom.

Before she passed away she made sure all her children were set up and able to live without her, she made sure all her children knew her recipes even the ones that she kept secret all of our lives and refused to tell us until she knew it was time. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2014, the doctors said she would only have a few months. this just shows how much of a fighter she was. She was determined to make it to her grandchild’s 3rd birthday, Easter and so she knew when she left her kids would be okay.

Barb could have everyone laughing in a heart beat, her laugh was so contagious her smile just made everything ok.

Barb will be forever loved by her children: Heather Holtby of London, England and her children; Clementine and Delphine; Margaret Abbs-Lavoie of Calgary and her children; Austin Amber Ashley Aric; Bradley Holtby of Calgary; George Abbs of Calgary; Justin Abbs of Calgary; Evan Abbs of Calgary; Tyler Abbs of Calgary; Brandon Abbs of Calgary and his child Mia; and Brittany Abbs-Scappatura (Anthony) and their children Emmett, Penelope and Reginald. Her memory will be cherished by her siblings: Marilyn, Doug, Gary and Linda. Barb was pre-deceased by her parents Dolores and Cecil Holtby.
