Francis Barber passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the age of 94 years.
Francis “Frank” Barber enlisted with the Military at the age of 18 with the Strathcona Horse Regiment and later moved over to the Princess Patricia Regiment. He went to the Korean war and worked his way to Staff Sargent. After the Korean war was over in 1953, he took part in the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Missions in the Gaza strip and the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt during the 1956 and early 1960s. During his excursions in the military, he travelled a lot and truly enjoyed learning about culture and languages and learned some Japanese, German, Spanish, Arabic and Latin.
He wanted to look his best and liked to wear nice suits at every family event. Remembrance Day was always a special day where he would break out the Blue Blazer and his Medals, Paratrooper Pin and of course a Poppy, along with plenty of great military stories and some good humour.
Frank is survived by his sons, Brian (Daniela) Barber and Mike Barber.
