Calgary – Bernard (aka Bernie or Pops) Albert Bastien 70, passed away Tuesday 3 November 2015 at his residence in Rundle, Calgary, Alberta. Bernard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol (ne Randolph); his sons, Mark and Gary Bastien, his granddaughter Sage Bastien; his daughter-in-law Aleksandra (ne Choczynska). He is also survived by his siblings: Therese Morral, Mary Murphy, Laurence and Andr Bastien, including several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Bernard was born in Guwahati, Assam, India and is the eldest son of Late William and Leilia Bastien. He was raised in Bangladesh (erstwhile East Pakistan) where his father opted to serve on the Eastern Bengal Railway. In his early years after graduating as a Mechanical Draughtsman, Bernard worked in various organizations mainly in an administrative capacity. He moved to Calgary in 1987 in search of better opportunities for his family. He worked in a few different businesses, principally, Sovereign Life, and retired from D&H Technologies. Bernard found great pleasure in DIY and always created projects to keep him busy. He was also an artist, excellent cook and baker and loved to exercise his culinary skills for his family and friends. He will be especially and fondly remembered as a generous, caring, loving and hardworking spouse, father and grandfather and we are blessed to have had him in our lives
