It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Griffin, who passed away peacefully at New Port Harbor Seniors Community in Calgary, Alberta on March 24, 2023 at the age of ninety. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Paul ( Carmen) Griffin of Calgary, AB, Holly ( Greg) Iler of Calgary,AB, Tracy ( Karie) Griffin of Lethbridge, AB, and Darcy ( Marlene) Griffin of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Krystal of Calgary, AB, Maddison ( Shaun Hummel) of Chestermere, AB, Trenton ( Tanis) of Calgary, AB, Nolan of Calgary,AB, Wyatt of Calgary, AB, Trista ( Daniel) of Saskatoon, SK, Chelsie ( Graeme Bosch) of Calgary, AB, Leslie-Ann of Lethbridge, AB, Nathan of Lethbridge, AB, Mitchell of Claresholm, AB, and Dakota of Calgary, AB; Betty’s Great-Grandchildren, Carter, Evelyn, and Ariel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was born the youngest of three girls. She was born on March 12, 1933 on a farm just outside Craigmyle, Alberta.
Betty grew up enjoying animals she had on the farm or rescued . Her father was in the military and was often overseas. Betty lived in the small farmhouse with her parents, two sisters and two grannies. She would speak about how she would go to school on horseback or they would walk.
Betty was creative and had great artistic talent.
She moved to Calgary where she met the love of her life, Paul. They married in 1956 and spent many wonderful years together enjoying camping, family events and travelling. In 1962 they started their family. Welcoming 4 children and numerous pets into their lives.
Betty and Paul took many trips with their children making lifetime memories. They found themselves in Chestermere, purchasing a lot where they would spend many years swimming, skiing and spending time with family.
They welcomed their first grandchild in 1985, They were proud grandparents and just loved their grandchildren.
Once retired Betty and Paul spent many years travelling with their motorhome. Betty will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Betty is predeceased by her Husband, Paul Griffin; and her sisters, Gwendolyn and Dorothy.
A big thank you to the staff on the 2nd floor port side at Newport Harbour for the excellent care they provided Betty.
A private family celebration of life will be held a Pierson’s Funeral Home.
