Carole Jean Sundal, 80, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2022, surrounded by family in Calgary, Alberta.
She was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, on July 22, 1942, to Jack and Mabel Gardner. She was raised in a loving home with three sisters and one brother to whom she was always close. Carole was a young girl when the family moved to Rimbey, Alberta. After graduating High School, she worked at the library at the University of Alberta where she met Harlan, and they began a whirlwind romance and married December 21, 1961. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary this past December. When they finished their schooling, they made Calgary, Alberta, their home where they raised their 4 wonderful children.
Carole’s life was dedicated to serving those around her. Carole and Harlan served together on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as employment specialist’s helping people looking for employment or those looking for improved employment. She spent many years serving in the Church in the role of a Quilting Specialist where many people benefitted from her skills and learned how to quilt and sew or just spent time sharing their talents. Carole has been widely known for her exceptional artistic talents. She was skilled in painting, ceramics, quilting, sewing, woodworking, stained glass, photography and all things crafty. If she attempted it, she was immersed in the craft and excelled. Even until the age of 75, she energetically worked as a bookkeeper and was proud of the work she did. She was always on the move and hard to keep up with for anyone of any age.
Carole is survived by her loving husband Harlan, her children, Sandra (Scott), Leah (Gerald), Richard (Hyunsun), Matthew (Judy), and her sisters May, Beth, and June. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ron. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Carole and her genuine smile, that lights up a room, will be missed by many.
