Caroline Beverly Mhlanga

Caroline Beverly Mhlanga passed away in Ica, Peru a place she called paradise, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 55 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Natasha Vanessa Valery Sibanda of Calgary, AB; her siblings, Sevi Mhlanga of Nelspruit, South Africa, Irvine (Sikhangezile) Mhlanga of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and Gracious Mhlanga of Durban, South Africa; her uncle, Enock and Aunt Catherine Batidzirai; and many extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Ransom Mhlanga and Sophie Mhlanga nee Batidzirai, and her brother, Memory Mhlanga. 

Caroline was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and grew up as one of five siblings. She attended Lukhanyiso Primary School before advancing to Mpopoma High School and later Mzilikazi High School. While at Mzilikazi High School, she served as a junior councillor for the Bulawayo City Council, showcasing her leadership skills early on. During her time at Mpopoma High School, she was one of six girls to join the karate club, excelling in the Shoto-kan style. By the time she completed university, she had achieved the rank of brown belt, a remarkable accomplishment at the time. Caroline excelled in university and college karate competitions, earning numerous Trophies and Medals for her skill and dedication. 

In 1992, Caroline graduated from the University of Zimbabwe with a Bachelor of Science in Politics and Administration (Honours). Her professional journey began as a social services officer with the Kariba Town Council. She later served as chamber secretary in Bulawayo before joining the Redcliff Town Council, where she held dual roles as deputy town clerk and chamber secretary when the town was elevated in status. 

In pursuit of new opportunities, Caroline immigrated to Canada, where she earned a Human Resources Management Certificate from the University of Calgary. A dedicated human resources professional, she made significant contributions to her field, most recently working with Graham Construction. 

Caroline will be remembered as a hardworking, principled and loving woman who stood for truth, even when it was inconvenient. She was a devoted mother, sister and family member who cherished her relationships and took time to show love and care to those around her. Caroline had a passion for travelling, hiking and capturing the beauty of the places she visited through photography. She was also a fashionista, and her favorite accessory of choice was hats-of which she had an amazing collection. Each one seemed to tell its own story, adding a unique flair to her outfits and making her stand out wherever she went. 

Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

A Visitation will be held for Caroline at the family residence on Saturday, January 18, 2025 starting at 5:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Calgary Central Seventh-day Adventist Church (1920 - 13 Avenue NW, Calgary) on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 11:00 am. A Graveside Service will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (24223 Township Rd 242, Calgary) on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 11:00 am.
