Catherine “Cathy” Marciano, 76, of Calgary, AB has ended the struggles with her health. She passed away due to a severe lung issue on Monday, July 17, 2023.
Cathy was born on October 16, 1946, to Isabella Reiki and George White. Her first job was picking blueberries for her aunt Hazel on her farm in New Brunswick. That began her adventurous nature, and desire to travel. When she returned to Stellerton Nova-Scotia, she met her first husband Leonard Basil McCormick. They had one child together, daughter Shannon Dawn McCormick born in February 1967.
She always maintained full-time employment, and was always there for whatever her girl needed. Cathy and her husband relocated with their daughter to Stoney Creek, Ontario. They lived on a 50 acre farm of corn fields, where Leonard’s younger brother Owen came to live with them as well. She was so loving, supportive, and a compassionate woman that knew how to manage her time. So many acres of space on the farm allowed the boys to explore the recreational means of transportation. Cathy soon joined them to go dirt biking, snowmobiling, and even got involved with the stock car races. They began a project that altered her life into becoming an adventurous traveler. They travelled wherever they pleased, and after three years settled in Victoria, B.C. There were many exciting times on the road, but there’s no place like home. She returned to Nova-Scotia, but wasn’t happy with the changes there, or the many changes with her husband.
Her next fearless mission was to be totally independent, and take care of her daughter on her own. Just the two of them headed out west to Alberta for a fresh new start together, leaving all they owned behind. She always enjoyed cooking, and that’s when she began her career as a professional cook at a variety of venues.
Cathy was so brave and able to accomplish anything she set her mind to. She was a natural beauty, that was kind and so considerate of others. She had a generous nature, a classy lady that enjoyed dancing and laughter. Eventually, her daughter moved away with her boyfriend to begin her own journey of adventures. Cathy’s sister, Pam White, had moved to Calgary, and they became very close. Cathy was an avid reader that kept to herself most of the time, however it wasn’t long before she found the love of her life. He swept her off her feet, when they went out dancing together.
She fell passionately in love with Gino Marciano, and they were married on July 30, 1988. Gino had three children from his first marriage, Patricia, Gina, and Franco, that extended her family more. Gino and Cathy shared so many wonderful memories as the children grew up, and then gave them grandchildren to adore. Cathy found joy in making others happy, and stayed happily married for 35 years. That was until her soulmate Gino passed away last November. Cathy struggled to carry on, but wasn’t content here without him. She missed him like a part of herself was gone. Her health declined rapidly once she was ready for “Gino to come take her home”. Cathy passed away nine months after Gino did. Their wedding anniversary is July 30th and I believe they are reunited and celebrating it together again. They were a happy couple that will be missed very much.
She is survived by two siblings, Sandra Doyle and Pamela Brandt who has two children, Amanda White and Joseph Brandt. Her deceased sister Mary had two sons that are surviving nephews, Jason McEachern and little Leonard McEachron. Cathy’s only child usually resides in B.C, but has been staying in Alberta as her caregiver since Cathy’s hospitalization. That is also where Shannon has two daughters, Tess Venchuk, and Vanessa Venchuk. Vanessa is engaged to Kris Jackson and she made Cathy a Great Grandmother when she had two children. Her daughter, Lydia Venchuk. And a son, Damian Jackson. Cathy is also survived by her three step children. Patricia Marciano, Gina Stevenson and Francesco Marciano, who married Jen and had two beautiful daughters Desiree, and Brooklyn. Gina married Dean Stevenson and had two sons, Cole and Blake. Patricia is predeceased by her only child Jamal Marciano.
The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to the home that Cathy and Gino shared. That is also the location of her Celebration of life and love, at 3:30 pm on Sunday July 30th. This happens to also be the anniversary of the day that Gino and Cathy committed to one another.
Cathy’s family welcomes those who knew Cathy, to join them at the service. This being the final time to gather together to pay our respects, and share our memories of such an amazing woman.
