Charlene was born at the Blackfoot Hospital in Siksika, Alberta on November 29, 1964, and passed away at South Health Campus Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, on February 25, 2021. With great sorrow we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Sister, Auntie, Great Auntie and Grandmother. Our mother Charlene (piita kii) was loving, gentle, kind, a hard worker, had a good sense of humor, caring and very intelligent. She loved playing baseball in her younger years. Charlene loved playing her guitar in her spare time, casino, and Facebook casino games. She adored her nieces growing up, and loved children. Our mother made her spiritual journey to reunite with her parents Charlie and Gertrude Turning Robe.
Charlene’s accomplishments were a child care worker at the former P.I.C.S.S daycare, a teacher’s assistant at the Calgary Head Start Program and a maintenance worker for numerous companies. Her education was with P.I.C.S.S and Bow Valley College for Daycare program.
Charlene leaves behind the joy of her life, Rhythm Feather Turning Robe and Morning Dawn Bylow-Turning Robe, her granddaughters; her beloved husband Brian Wycotte; her children who she adored endlessly, Brian Turning Robe, Cheyenne Turning Robe, Jesse Wycotte, Charmaine Wycotte, Joshua Wycotte, her baby boy Christian Wycotte; adopted son Francis Scalplock; and adopted daughter Tristen Provost. Charlene also leaves to mourn her sisters Elizabeth Turning Robe (Dave), Joan Turning Robe (Charles); sister in-law, Wanda Turning Robe; adopted brothers John Yellow Sun (Leslie) and Eldon Yellow Sun (Sherry); her aunties Pat Yellow Sun, Liz Scout and Connie Rabbit Carrier; cousin Fred Rabbit Carrier; nieces, Tracy Turning Robe (Dedric), Bobbi Jo Turning Robe (Francis), Emiline Turning Robe (Calvin), Dawn Turning Robe (Peter), Jamie and Kari Yellow Sun (Dustin); her nephews Charles Turning Robe (Deirdre), Dean Turning Robe, Tommy Turning Robe (Jenneen), Anthony Turning Robe (Ryan), Conrad Turning Robe and Dustin Turning Robe (Kaitlynn); her great nieces Brenna Scalplock, Sade Panterbone (Trayton), Ivory Panterbone, Kiana Panther Bone, Tokeio Geimausaddle and Terri-Lynn T Robe; her great nephew Draven Pantherbone, Phoenix Turning Robe, Piita Geimausaddle, Wyatt Geimausaddle and Thunder Turning Robe. Charlene also had a street family in Calgary, Alberta. Charlene had numerous great nieces and nephews, too many to mention, the family apologizes or if we have missed you.
Charlene is predeceased by her parents Charlie (1972) and Gertrude (2014) Turning Robe, brother in- law Stan Gaudry (1998); niece Amber Turning Robe (2008), brother Dean Turning Robe (2019) and grandmother Rose Alma Many Shots (2013).
Charlene had extensive extended family from Siksika and the United States, Many Shots, Yellow Sun, Breaker, Axe, Turning Robe, Big Snake, Leather, Many Fires, Bearshirt, Waterchief, Maguire, Rabbit Carrier, Scout. If we have missed any families we apologize as Charlene had many extended family. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the numerous doctors and nurses at South Health Campus Unit 68 for such great and compassionate care for Charlene.
Charlene’s wake service will commence at 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday March 7, 2021 for family and the public are invited to come commencing at 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 pm at the Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel, 4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta. Due to pandemic protocol, only 20 people are allowed at a time, although we will rotate people, for all her family and friends to see her. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Siksika Nation (Cluny, Alberta) on Monday, March 8, 2021. Due to pandemic protocol, only 20 people allowed in the church, although you are more than welcome to wait outside or in your vehicles. Cremation will follow the Funeral Mass. Memorial Services with Charlene’s urn will be held in the late spring as per Charlene’s wishes, notification will be announced at a later date. Again due to COVID restrictions there will be no feast.
