The children of Connie Smigarowski sadly announce the passing of our brave, smart, witty and fun loving mother at the age of 82 years. Mom cherished her family, friends and fur babies, and was happiest when spending time with them. Connie was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who enjoyed each and every opportunity to touch people’s lives. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Connie is survived by her son David (Ruby-Alice), daughter Peggy (Don), her sister Pat Seekins, sisters-in-laws Mary Smigarowski, Donna Smigarowski and many nieces and nephews. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on October 11, 1933, Connie married Lloyd Smigarowski, the love of her life on October 8, 1952. Together they enjoyed 47 years of marriage. Through the years they lived in Regina, Radville, North Battleford, Moose Jaw (Saskatchewan) before settling in Calgary (Alberta) in 1964. They also enjoyed wintering in Phoenix, Arizona for many years before dad’s passing. Mom was always grateful to have been embraced by the extended Smigarowski clan upon marrying our dad in her early life; she laughed with, cherished and loved them all. Connie is pre-deceased by her mother, Lily Seekins, daughter, Heather, and the love of her life, her husband Lloyd. Mom was an accomplished knitter, choosing to knit mittens for Calgary’s kids. Over the past twenty plus years, she turned in thousands of pairs of mittens for kids; knitting every day of the year. Without her time and commitment to her hobby many kids would have gone without. In November 2014, dear friends Marilyn and Maxine nominated her as an “Inspiring Albertan”. She was interviewed by Darrell Janz with a televised clip airing on the CTV News. She was so proud, as were we! In August 2015, Connie moved to the Carewest, Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre for additional assistance with her day to day living/health needs. She not only adjusted but thrived in her new surroundings leading a very busy life of crafts, wii bowling, java music, baking, weekly manicures and numerous outings in the community. The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the loving hearts and hands of the staff on 3 West that cared for mom each day. Mom’s wit and humour kept them entertained each and every day and their kindness, care and compassion provided great comfort to our family. It was here she also met many new friends and quickly established herself as a popular resident of 3West. A Celebration of Connie’s Life will be held at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm with Eulogies at 3:00 pm. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made in Connie’s memory to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Southern Alberta Branch Office (6007 – 1A Street SW Calgary, AB T2H 0G3). www.kidney.ca.
