Dan’s ride from birth until death was wind-in-the-face, eyes on the road and his “Babydoll” tucked in safely, clutching on to his leathers.
Animating real-life at 14-years of age, not meek-in-spirit, he launched himself out into this world on his own, landing in Mackenzie BC then the Okanagan Falls. His vocation led him to Calgary to work in the Oil and Gas Industry in sales where at the age of 59, he returned to the University of Calgary to earn his certification as an Environmental Health & Safety Officer; a calling that brought him great satisfaction. He enjoyed meeting & building relationships and had a natural ability to put people at ease.
Joy in the freedom of riding his Harley was the inspiration for taking on the lead of the Oilfield Riders Motorcycle Group which he led faithfully for 7 years. As an avid curler, Dan enjoyed the camaraderie of the rink in Springbank Park and the Oilmen’s Curling League.
Actively looking out for youth and highly influenced by his own journey in this world of give and take, Dan contributed and enthusiastically participated in organizations and causes and was never afraid to pick up a hammer to help a friend.
If life is measured by what your wife says about you, he won…
“He loves me to my core, accepts me in every way I am, encourages my dreams, celebrates my victories and shelters me when I need to retreat. As a father, he was a fun crazy man not afraid to make a fool of himself for the sake of making his kids laugh and provided us with so many beautiful memories of camping trips and Fairmont Hot Springs Vacations.”
In reflection, Dan challenged himself and beliefs, reaching beyond this human experience, cancer, treasuring family and sharing his dream of travel. Yes, we will find his spirit in every April Fools-like moment, a ‘holiday’ where family has always been on high alert.
He will be with us and cherished always – wife of 32-years, Darlene; sons, Colton and Jacob; daughter, Jennifer Bennett (Ryan) with grandchildren Tryton and Mayea; sister, Vivian Desgagné-Lund (Murray); mother, Nadia; nieces, Payton and Courtney and numerous extended family and friends. Dan was predeceased by his father Armand and his nephew Zane Fisher.
A private gathering of family & friends to be held at their residence on Saturday, March 19th at 2:00pm. Please email
