David Brian George Boyd

January 4, 1972 — April 6, 2025

Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that the family of David Brian George Boyd announce his passing on April 6, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta. He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

David was born in Sudbury, Ontario on January 4, 1972 and immediately moved to London, Ontario, where he lived until he was 9 years old. David had so many fun times with his Nana & Granddad Boyd, and his Salt, Melanson and Quaife family relatives prior to moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1981. As a child, he developed a love for the outdoors, particularly fishing. David even turned his passion for collecting worms into a successful childhood business. His intelligence was evident early on, scoring in the 95th percentile in the country in math. As a teenager, David excelled in track and field, securing third place in the city finals, which led to his recruitment by the football team, where he became a top player and even scored six touchdowns in one game.

David met his former wife, Alison Van Rosendaal, when he was just 14 years old, and they shared many years together. David followed in his father's footsteps and became a skilled plumber. His love for fishing remained a constant throughout his life, and he found immense joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, often hosting sleepovers and taking them to the park or fishing.

David had a passion for cooking and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes, often delighting his family with delicious meals. He was known for his quiet service, always ready to lend a hand with a smile and a laugh. His love for political debates and his readiness to help with any plumbing problem were well-known among his friends and family.

David valued experiences over material possessions and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

David is survived by his beloved children Aaron Boyd, Emily (Jay) Russell, Benjamin (Katie) Boyd, and Kylie Green (Jake Travis). He was a proud grandfather to Lucas Russell, Ayla Russell, Hadleigh Russell, Astrid Russell, James Russell, Johnny Russell, Maria Russell, Cecilia Russell, Finn Boyd, and Mae Boyd. He cherished his role as a grandfather and loved watching his grandchildren grow.

David is also survived by his loving parents Steven and Gail Boyd and four siblings Darlene Szott, Christopher (Jill) Boyd, Valerie (Dwayne) Schmidt, and Natalie (Tyson) Portwood, in addition to numerous aunts and uncles, including Donna Quinton, Bill (Kathy) Maher, Gib (Mohini) Quaife, Gordon (Dee) Maher, Mark Maher, Pam (Dan) Merrell, Stephen (Vicki) Maher, and Pauline (Brian) Salt, as well as 13 nieces and nephews and 30 first cousins.

Rest in peace, David. Your legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of your family and friends.

A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place at Foothills Crematorium.
