Deanna Wood Deyholos died peacefully in Calgary on August 19, 2023, after a rapid decline in health. She was surrounded by the family she loved when she passed from this world to the next.
Deanna was born 1939 to a close-knit family that farmed near Glenwood, Alberta. She fondly remembered laughter-filled gatherings at home, riding a horse to school, and summer jobs in Waterton. Deanna attended the universities of Alberta, Lethbridge and Utah State, earning a B.Ed. while raising two young sons. In 1970, she married her second husband, John, and a third son soon followed. The family moved from Calgary to Edmonton in 1973, and returned to Calgary in 1979, where she remained until her passing. In both cities, she helped turn houses into homes, refined her watercolor skills, and made life-long friends. All admired her calm and fun approach to life. She also influenced many lives during the more than 20 years she worked as an elementary school teacher. After retirement she enjoyed adventures in places as far away as Europe and Samoa. Most of all, she loved spending time with family, especially with nieces, nephews, and her 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren whom she always entertained with games, crafts, and baking.
As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Deanna found many opportunities for service, including as president of the Relief Society, as a full-time missionary working with Liberian refugees in Philadelphia (2008-2009), and as an ordinance worker in the Cardston and Calgary temples.
Deanna is preceded in death by her husband John, and brother Lowell Wood; and survived by her sons Steve and Sheryl of Star Valley, WY, Jason and Brenda, of Calgary and Michael & Paulette of Kelowna; Thirteen grandchildren Shelyn Olson (Jeremy), Tamra Rich (Nick), Jenae Huckins (Coey), Bradley Deyholos, Taylor Deyholos (Paige), Alanna McKenzie (Austin), Lauren Orth (Derek), Devon Deyholos, Emily Ferro (Bruno), Dallin Deyholos (Kailee), Abbie Deyholos, Fern Deyholos and John Deyholos; Fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Rex Wood (Collette), Karen Oviatt (Jack), Judy Edstrom (Delynn) and Greg Wood (Jean); a sister-in-law Lorna Wood; and a large extended family.
