Dennis Edmund Morey

November 30, 1938 — April 26, 2020

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Dennis Edmund Morey on April 26, 2020. Dennis was born November 30th, 1938 in Bognor Regis, Sussex,England. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Pat and his four children Shannon, Colleen (Blake) Jackson, Jennifer (Warren) Serra and Jeff (Saishin). He leaves behind his 5 remarkable grandsons who he was most proud of; Brody, Ben, Alex, Jordan and Nakhon. Dennis was predeceased by his daughter Maureen and parents Winnifred Ettie and Edmund John (Ted) Morey.

Dennis had a love and a passion for his family that knew no bounds. He made friends everywhere that he went and whenever you saw Dennis you knew that a hug was not far behind his great big smile. He has left a large hole in all of our hearts.

Dennis started his journey in a small seaside town called Bognor Regis. He was born with a gift to make people smile and a passion for life. He made his way to Canada at the young age of 16 leaving his parents in order to make his mark in the world. Dennis’ dad told him when you get to Canada you should get a trade. He ended up in Winnipeg where he did just that and got a job as a sign painter putting his amazing artistic talent to work. With his ability to talk to people and make them feel at ease he soon moved into a sales position at that company. His sales approach so impressed a client they hired him and his career in janitorial supplies began.

It was in Winnipeg where Dennis met the love of his life, Pat. After they were married they traveled to Calgary on a holiday and he fell in love again but this time with the mountains that sat on Calgary’s doorstep. In order to be closer to the mountains Dennis took a job transfer from Winnipeg to Edmonton. After spending a year in Edmonton Dennis got an opportunity to transfer to Calgary, the perfect place for him to be! Dennis and Pat’s love grew with five children, one of which they lost when she was a baby.

Dennis eventually met up with partner in crime, Don Turner, and together they created Turnmore Sanitation – One Stop Sanitation Shop! They built and ran this amazing business together until Dennis retired in 2000.

After retiring Dennis was able to fully enjoy his five grandsons and travel with Pat to visit their son Jeff wherever he was living at the time. From Japan, to England, to Taiwan and then finally Thailand, Dennis saw the world with his best friend Pat by his side.

Dennis was truly a gift to us all. He loved his family with all his heart. He rarely missed a soccer, hockey, basketball, volleyball or baseball game. He was his grandsons’ number one fan and their teammates came to love Dennis’ big smiles, hugs and mints after each game. Dennis made everyone he met feel both special and important. Dennis was a protector of all. He made sure that everyone he loved was treated fairly and with respect. He created a culture within his family of love, respect and kindness. He will be sorely missed but we have all been blessed with his love and we are all lucky to have had Dennis in our lives. Rest in Peace Dennis. You are our hero!

We would like to take this time to thank the ICU nurses and doctors at Rockyview hospital for their incredible care of our dad. They were amazing and it gave us great comfort to know he was in their gentle care.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers you are welcome to make a donation to the ICU at Rockyview Hospital (7007 14 St SW, Calgary, AB T2V 1P9) or the EMS Foundation (#70, 2626 Country Hills Boulevard NE. Calgary, AB. T3N1A7).
