Dermott Hickey

Dermott Hickey passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the age of 88 years. Dermott was predeceased by his wife, Wilhelmina; his son, Philip; his parents, Ronald and Rita; brothers Garrett and Raymond; his infant twin brothers Joseph and William; infant sister Mary Assumpta; as well as sister Mary Margaret. He is survived by his children, Maureen, Joan, Sheila, Marg (Pat), Roni (Terry), Hal, Rick, Derm (Michele); 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and large extended family in Newfoundland, Ontario, and Michigan.

Dermott was happiest whenever he was with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, preferably all at the same time. He stayed in touch by telephone daily to make sure everyone was doing well. Dermott amazed his family with his uncanny ability to remember telephone numbers and birthdays.

He had a strong bond with his brothers and sisters and enjoyed their regular telephone conversations often recalling relationships and interactions with his siblings, having a few laughs or offering brotherly advice.

Dermott had a great sense of humor, often inflicting it on anyone who would listen. He had a feisty streak and relished saying rules were meant to be broken.

Dermott was a car salesman for 30 years and many of those years were at Eastside Dodge. He valued the friendships he made there and spoke of those friends often.

Funeral Services will be held at Pierson’s Funeral Home (4121 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 11:00 am ( Mountain Time)  with reception to follow. For those that wish to attend virtually, please follow this link:
