Beth passed away peacefully at the age of 87. She was a graceful and serene woman who had the exceptional quality of being able to listen to others. Beth stood proud for 62 years beside her late beloved husband, Ned Newhall who passed away in January 2013. Ned was her guardian angel when she was no longer able to be herself as she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Beth was born in Red Deer, Alberta and did nursing at University of Alberta in Edmonton. As a small child she quickly learned to cope with and learn from all of life’s moments, even those that were difficult. She loved animals and had many pets both dog and cats. Beth was an amazing artist and craftswoman with a gift for details. She shared all her knowledge, patience and conviction during her nursing career in Public Health. Only tuberculosis stopped her from being as physically strong as she could be. She continued to serve actively in her community wherever life took her in libraries and on various committees. She was most appreciated and inspiring to all those who met her with her total devotion and unfaltering presence in any task she undertook. With her beautiful green eyes and light laughter she was the most pleasant person with which to share special moments with right up to the end of her life. The sickness was terrifying and frustrating to her and made her very sad. It’s evolution frightened her and those that loved her did everything possible to re-assure her of their love. Beth is dearly and lovingly remembered by her sister Leith Leslie (Bruce McAllister) of Victoria, who was able to visit and be her caring sister over the last few years of her life, and Alison Leslie her niece and Colin Leslie her nephew of Toronto. As a wonderful and fun Grandma, she will be remembered by Damien Chevassut-Newhall and Diane Chevassut-Newhall both of France. As a mother, Beth was gifted and truly gave both roots and wings to her daughter Susan Newhall of Geneva, Switzerland who misses her immensely. Her subtle and definite sense of humour will always be remembered by Bjrn Weikert (Susan) and all her friends. May she rest in peace. Private Family services will be held for Beth. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Calgary, #201, 222 – 58 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB T2H 2S3.
