With sadness the family of Dorothy (Dot) Brann, a much-loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother announce her peaceful passing at Clifton House on Thursday November 16th, 2023 at the age of 88 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Austin Brann and her daughter Alanna Jean Brann. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Kearney; her sons, Timothy Robert Brann (Jennie), Christopher Lynne Brann (Dixie); her daughter, Lorrie Susan Hundt (Peter); her three grandchildren, Jared Brann (Ashley), Quinton Brann, and Braydon Hundt; and her two great grandchildren, Aela and Boone Brann.
Dorothy was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan and after the loss of her mother at an early age, she was adopted by Jack and Patsy Isnor in 1935 and grew up in their loving home. She later met and married Robert in 1954 in Minor Creek, Saskatchewan. From there; the spirit of adventure captured them and they moved to Calgary, Alberta which has been home for over 69 years. Dorothy was a dedicated and loving housewife raising 4 children and managing a busy household. She grew incredible vegetable gardens, baked with fruits that she had picked on berry picking outings, and preserved the fruits and vegetables of her labors. She enjoyed camping with her family, playing piano at family gatherings and sing-a-longs, playing board games with her children, sewing, and quilting; and enjoyed the occasional glass of red wine. Later in life her talents behind the sewing machine led her to opening her own business as a seamstress. She continued with her spirit of adventure by purchasing a motor home and enjoying camping trips with her family and friends. She was an avid volunteer for the Tops Organization, the Royal Canadian Legion and a keyboard specialist for the Calgary Fiddlers Club playing “old time” music for seniors at various lodges. She and Robert were members of the Alberta Black Powder Association and Dorothy would sew various historical costumes for the group.
The family would like to thank the staff at Clifton House for their incredible care and compassion provided to Dorothy over the years she spent in their care.
A Funeral Service will be held for Dorothy at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11:00 am with a inurnment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens ( 1515 100 Street SE, Calgary).
