It is with great sadness to announce Dorothy Mable (Finlay) Ryan, born April 21, 1937, at Vanguard, Saskatchewan, the eldest of six children, passed away peacefully at the hospital in Calgary on January 9th, 2021, at the age of 83.
She will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gerald Ryan; her children, Lyle (Roxanne) Donauer, Lauren, Donauer, Raymond Ryan, Barney (Bernice) Ryan, and Holly (Larry) Gale along with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sibling, Jim (Madelyn) Finlay, Norman (Gail) Finlay, Raymond (Frankie) Finlay and Doris (Bob) Burns and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Clara Finlay of Vanguard, SK; sister Doreen and brother-in-law Dave Heron.
She lived most of her life in the Town of Athabasca, Alberta, where she taught elementary school for many years. Her students were all very special to her. She enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds. Once Dorothy retired, Gerald and Dorothy spent many winters camping on the desert in Yuma, Arizona and always did the Finlay Family Campouts in the summer. Shortly after retirement they moved to Medicine Hat and then to Calgary. Dorothy was always ready to go anywhere at anytime with Gerald.
Due to COVID restrictions there will be no funeral service held at this time.
