The Reverend Canon Douglas H. Skoyles, S.S.C. passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the age of 79 years.
Fr. Douglas has served the church in Calgary from 1969 to 2024. He was Assistant Curate and Rector to many parishes in the Anglican Diocese of Calgary, including St. Barnabas Church, Christ Church, St. Martin’s, and St. George’s in the Pines, Banff, St. Mark’s, and St. John the Evangelist. He has served in the Traditional Anglican Church of Canada since 2004, primarily at All Saints’.
Graduating Trinity College Toronto with his S.T.B. (M.Div) in 1969, he and his wife Kathryn moved to Calgary, Alberta where he was ordained to the priesthood in 1970. He was appointed Canon in 1983 and joined the Society of the Sacred Cross in 1990.
His twin passions were for the church and Aikido, a Japanese martial art he taught and was sensei of since 1970. He is the founder of the Nakayama Ko Aikido dojos. His many students through out the years have thrived under his instruction.
His many friends have benefited from his scholarly insights, pastoral counseling, and fervent defense of the faith.
Fr. Douglas was predeceased by his mother (Euphemia “Sam”), father (Alfred), sister (Virginia). He is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughter Stephanie (David), grandson Thomas, and brother David (Patricia).

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at All Saints’ allsaintscalgary.ca on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
