Dr. Joseph Nii Abekar Mensah

On Wednesday, January 4, 2023 Dr. Joseph Nii Abekar Mensah of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 83 years.
Dr. Joseph Nii Abekar Mensah was born and raised in Accra, Ghana, on June 15th, 1939. He was the son of Nii Sempe Mensah and Mary Naa Adoley Okailey Addo. Joseph was an exceptional, intelligent and God-Fearing individual. Dr. Mensah received his Bachelor of Science in psychology and biology from St. Mary’s College in 1972. He then received his second degree, Bachelor of Education, from St. Mary’s College in 1974 in Science Education. The same year, Joseph received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Dalhousie University. He went on to receive his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology from Columbia University in 1981. Joseph’s career began teaching Junior and Senior Sciences. Dr. Mensah thrived on education and helping others. He sadly passed away January 4, 2023. Joseph was a beloved father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother, friend and mentor to many of us.
Dr. Mensah is lovingly remembered by his four children, son Ebenezer Mensah of Toronto, Ontario, daughter Farah Newmarch of Toronto, son Gamal Mensah of Toronto, daughter Shelly of Nova Scotia; grandson Tate Newmarch and granddaughters Paighton Newmarch and Shaylin Newmarch both of Toronto. He is predeceased by his father Nii Sempe Mensah, and mother Mary Naa Adoley Okailey Addo.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family and always remembered in their hearts. We are sincerely grateful to the many friends who have given us support and comfort during this time of loss.
A Visitation will be held for Dr. Mensah at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 10:00 am. The Graveside Service will follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery, 243208 Garden Road, Calgary, Alberta.
