It is with great sadness that we share that God has called a great General home. Retired Pastor Dr. Sylvester Alexander Taylor, 83, of Calgary, Alberta died peacefully at Carewest George Boyack on Saturday June 4, 2022 at the age of 83 years.
Sylvester, known as Lloyd, was born in a district called Wild Cane in St Ann’s Jamaica on February 22, 1939 to Elvira (Dolly) and Orlando Taylor. He was the sixth of 11 children. At the age of 17, Sylvester immigrated to England where he met and married the love of his life Sonia (Walters) Taylor. After the birth of their first child, the couple immigrated to Canada where they lived in Toronto, had 2 more children, then relocated to Montreal, where they birthed their last child, before settling in Calgary, Alberta.
Even in early childhood Sylvester felt call to shepherd God’s flock as a pastor one day, and he lived to see that dream realized. Pastor Taylor founded the Showers of Blessing Church NE Calgary where he led a thriving congregation for 36 years before his retirement in 2016. His community contributions are too many to name.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Vincent, Will, Sam, and Oscar and his sisters Meda and Bernice. Hubert, Dennis, Ethlyn and Danny are his surviving siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife Sonia; his children Pamela, Clova, Glendon (Nasiche) and Sarah; His grandchildren Vanessa (Jermaine), Stephanie, Solomon, Joshua, Jordan, Omar, and Tyson; His great grandchildren Genesis, Aleena, Malachi, Jeremiah and one great great grandchild Bellamy.
There will be a Visitation and Memorial Service held at Showers of Blessings (3915 34 Street NE, Calgary) on Friday, July 1, with viewing starting at 5:00 pm and the memorial service starting at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Services will be held at the same location on Saturday, July 2, at 11:00 am. The service will be live streamed on the churches website (
