Effie Lantz (nee Cherniwchan) passed away June 15, 2019 in Calgary, AB at the age of 85 after a lengthy illness.
Effie was born in Bellis, AB on her family’s homestead. The eighteenth of nineteen children, Effie grew up surrounded by her siblings, nieces and nephews. Leaving home at the age of fourteen, Effie worked briefly in Boyle AB before moving to Calgary where she would marry, raise her family and live the rest of her life. Effie married Bruce Lantz on August 20, 1971 and they remained happily married for the next forty-eight years. She worked a variety of jobs but her primary focus was her home and family. Although she had a variety of interests Effie especially loved her vegetable garden, and every autumn she could be found preserving and canning which she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends.
Effie is pre deceased by her parents Elia(Alex) and Anna (nee Bachur) Cherniwchan, her son James Boyd and granddaughter Kaitlind Lantz Sisters: Lena Cherniwchan, Pearl Kupchanko (Bill), Mary Kupchanko (George), Lena Hirst (Harold), Nellie Wolansky (Bill) and Lucy Dervalics (Les) Brothers: Bill (Lena), John (Lena), Steve (Katherine), Nick (Florence), Harry (Mary), Fred, Mike, George (Emily), Metro (Irene) and Alex
She is survived by her husband Bruce Lantz, Children: Cheryl Kennedy (Don), Jackie Hunt, Trevor Lantz (Caroline), Troy Lantz (Cinnamon), Tracy Romanycia (Mike Scott) Grandchildren: Todd Cruickshank (Erin), Joshua Cruickshank (Andrea Kereliuk-Ross), Kiara Hasegawa (Brandon), Kalie Pasieka (Brad Reimer), Pierce Lantz, Mackenzie Lantz-Menard, Connor Lantz and Sarah Lantz Great grandchildren: Tristan Cruickshank, Amelia Cruickshank, Caiden Cruickshank and James Cruickshank Sisters: Anne Wolansky (Harry) and Katie Sachko (William)
