Eileen Goebel, 90 of Calgary, passed away May 2, 2020 where she battled her Parkinson’s disease but finally succumbed to the Corona virus while at HillCrest Extendicare. Eileen Goebel (nee Hein) of Hay Lakes Alberta was born to Adam and Hilda (nee Grams) Hein of Hay Lakes, AB. on Feb. 17, 1930. Eileen was the eldest of four children. She was baptized at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church at Hay Lakes, AB. Eileen was predeceased by her Husband in November 2011, Father in August 1975, her Mother in September 2011 and her Brother in July 2014. Eileen was raised on the family farm with her brother and two sisters. They attended the Canard School in the Hay Lakes District.
Eileen was married to Wilfred Steinke who perished in a garage fire at a young age leaving two young boys behind. Eileen remarried to Walther Goebel of Stony Plain, AB. They had a daughter, a sister for Lorne and Gary.
Eileen is survived by her sisters Ruth Hannaford and Doreen Schutz. Her eldest son Lorne and Carol (Cox), Gary and Irene (Brauer), Randy and Melody (Goebel) and grandchildren Sean and Keani Goebel, Nathan and Sharon(Lappenbush) Goebel, Jaden Denecky. Great grandchild Esme Goebel, daughter of Sean and Keani. Eileen will also be remembered by her sister-in-law, Hertha Hein.
Eileen moved with her new husband to Calgary where they set down roots to raise their children. Mom enjoyed her gardening and providing for her family. She was an excellent homemaker and hostess to her community. After the children were old enough to look after themselves she took on some outside work at Chesney Hardware to provide a little extra for her family.
A celebration of her life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Monday, May 11, 2020 with immediate family and live streaming of the service on Youtube video. A copy of the service may be available by contacting the family. Memorial donations can be sent to Lutheran Hour Ministries or a charity of one’s choice.
