Elaine DaBreo

Elaine DaBreo of Dr. Belle, Gouyave, St. John who resided in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, passed away on Sunday December 24, 2023 at the age of 101.

She was the mother of: Barbara, aka Sister Yeshua Marie in Italy,  Brian in South Carolina, Derek in Cambodia, Michael in Canada, Clarence in Guyana,  Alvin in Grenada and Margaret in Canada.

Grand mother of: Maria (Jamahl), Chevone (Salvatore), Christy (Anthony)  and Sara in the USA. Jeffrey (Sarah), Nigel (Agnieszka), Alanna (Brent), Nyall,  Matthew (Chantal), Tiffany (Darrell), Stefan, Brandon, Olivia, Kaylee, Evangeline in Canada and Bernard in Cambodia.

Great grand mother of: Cyana, Iliyanna, Ansel, Tayvua and Alayah in Canada, and Anetha, Jamahl Jr, Adam and Raphael in the USA.

Sister of: Ann in Trinidad and Alister in Grenada, Sister in Law of: Christine in Grenada and Sarah in the USA (recently deceased).  Mother in Law of:  Erva in the USA, Mariela in Canada, June in Canada and Desiree and Corrine in Grenada.

Other relatives and friends including: Shirley in the UK, Gloria in the USA, Bernard in the USA,  Andrea in Trinidad,  Julie in Guyana, he Raymond family in Grenada, USA, UK and elsewhere. The DaBreo and Duncan family in Grenada, Canada and elsewhere. Norma Noel and other cherished friends in Grenada and throughout the world.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband Raphael “Chappy” DaBreo; children Alwyn, Hilary and Eunice; grandchild Richard; mother Margaret Raymond; brothers Roy, Lennard and John; and sisters Constance, Maudlyn and Elizabeth.

Elaine was born February 18, 1922 in Trinidad. Her mother moved her to Grenada shortly thereafter. As a young child she lived with a family called the Humphreys. In her early teens, she met Raphael “Chappy” DaBreo and they eventually got married. They were blessed with 10 children which was difficult to raise with them being not too many years apart. Elaine has been strong in her faith as a staunch Catholic and she was a part of many catholic organizations, The Legion of Mary, to name one of them. This was a trait that she instilled in all her children. Elaine was always there to help the poor and less fortunate. She spent many years at the Kirby Centre in Calgary, learning art skills and other creative work. Her contribution to the various churches both in Grenada and Canada is immeasurable.

A great mother, the matriarch of the family, an outstanding citizen and an inspiration to all. She will be tremendously missed.

 A Funeral Service was held for Elaine in Canada at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church (15 Templebow Road NE, Calgary) on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 11:00 am.
