On Saturday, November 4, 2023 Elizabeth “Liz” Turning Robe of Siksika Nation, Alberta passed away at the age of 77 years.
It’s with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our female matriarch of our Turning Robe clan Elizabeth Turning Robe, also knowing as Liz and auntie who fought a long battle with Cancer. Liz had a strong personality with a strength of resilience. Liz was a fighter, fun and had unconditional love for her family. Liz made her spiritual journey home to reunite with her loving parents Gertrude and Charlie Turning Robe, siblings Charlene and Dean Turning Robe, and her husband Stan Gaudry.
Elizabeth was raised and taken care of by her traditional mother Rose Alma Many Shots, was a residential school survivor, and a member of the Pink Shawl Lady’s. Throughout Liz’s life she accomplished many things. Liz graduated with her grade twelve diploma at the P.I.C.S.S school. She then graduated from Columbia College receiving her teaching Diploma. Liz worked in various places, and loved to work with kids. She was a teacher at Headstart School and West Dover School, and a lunch lady along side with her sister Joan at Piitoayis School. Liz also worked as a housekeeper in her younger days. Auntie loved to read, and enjoyed outings with the family, and loved to travel, and always looked forward to camping during the Indian days. She enjoyed gardening, and loved being a foster parent. Her favorite season was Fall and Spring.
Liz leaves behind her companion Dave Wycotte. She was a loving mother to Tracy Turning Robe and Dean Turning Robe, adopted son Francis Scalplock, Foster son Andrew Turning Robe; her sister Joan Turning Robe (Charles); sister-in-law Wanda Cayenne; brother-in-law Brian Wycotte and loving Aunt Patricia Yellowsun; cousins Angie (Henry) Many Shots, Dwayne (Gabriela) Many Shots, and Stella T.Robe; grandkids Ashley Turning Robe, Terri Lynn Turning Robe, Layne Turning Robe, Tarrell Turning Robe, Lexie Yellowhorse, Madison Turning Robe, and Kaitlynn and Dominique Yellowhorse, Cinthia Turning Robe, Olivia Turning Robe, Mia Turning Robe, Meilani Turning Robe, Trinity Turning Robe, Annabelle Turning Robe, Arkillius Turning Robe and her precious baby boy Carter Turning Robe; nieces Bobbi Jo Turning Robe / Goddaughter (Francis), Emiline Turning Robe (Dwight), Dawn Turning Robe (Richard), Cheyenne Turning Robe and Charmaine Wycotte (Dakota), Kari-Beth (Dustin) Yellowsun, Jamie Yellowsun; great nieces, Brenna Little Light (Bradly), Sade Panterbone, Ivory Pantherbone, Kiana Pantherbone, Rhythm Turning Robe, Morningdawn Bylow/Wycotte, Kaiya Turning Robe, Sunshine Turning Robe, Tokeio Geimausaddle; nephews; Charles (Deidre) Turning Robe, Tommy (Jenneen) Turning Robe, Anthony Turning Robe (Ryan), Conrad Turning Robe, Brian Turning Robe, Jesse Wycotte, Joshua Wycotte, Christian Wycotte, John (Leslie) Yellowsun, Eldon Yellowsun; great nephews, Dustin Turning Robe (Kaitlynn), Thunder Turning Robe, Gabriel Turning Robe, Charles Turning Robe Jr., Phoenix Turning Robe, Draven Panther-Bone, Daryus Turning Robe, Tommy Turning Robe Jr., Tidus Turning Robe, Makoyee Turning Robe, Karlen Bylow / Wycotte, Wyatt Geimausaddle, Pitta Geimausaddle, Dravis Little Light, Stetson Little Light; great great nieces Angel Turning Robe, Acacia and Alysia Little Light, Oleana and Eloise Pantherbone, Simone Pantherbone; Great great nephews Nekoli Turning Robe, Daystar Pantherbone.
Liz is predeceased by her parents Charlie (1972) and Gertrude (2014) Turning Robe; brother Dean Turning Robe (2019); sister Charlene Turning Robe (2021); nieces Amber Turning Robe (2008) and Kim Yellowsun (2004), Vivian Yellowsun (1997); nephew, Lindsey Yellowsun (1997); traditional mother Rose Alma Many Shots (2013), her loving husband Stan Guadry (1998) and Son in law, Dedric Yellowhorse (2022).
Liz had extensive extended family from Siksika and the United States, Many Shots, Yellowsun, Breaker, Turning Robe, Big Snake, Leather, Many Fries, Bear Shirt, Waterchief , Maguire, Rabbit Carrier, Scout. If we have missed any families we apologize as Liz had many extended family.
A special thank you to Robin Big Snake and Larry Waterchief, and heartfelt thank you to the home care nurse, Tessa, Cheryl and Dennis.;her Doctors, Dr. Mat Ray and Dr. Glaze; her palliative Doctor, Dr. Ho, and the staff at Foothills Medical Centre Tom Baker.
A wake will be held at Liz’s residence, Map 2A House 159 on Siksika Nation for Saturday, November 11, 2023 for family and Sunday, November 12, 2023 for public. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Cluny, Alberta. As per Liz’s wishes, she will be brought back to Pierson’s Funeral Home in Calgary where Liz will be cremated.
