KNOLL, Emanuel September 24, 1933 November 24, 2012 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Emanuel Knoll, loving husband, father, Opa, brother and friend. Emanuel passed away with family by his side on Saturday November 24, 2012. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Hilda, their sons and daughters-in-law Peter (Connie) and Fred (Jan) plus his four cherished grandchildren Matthew, Kevin, Amanda and Katie; as well as many nieces and nephews. Emanuel is survived by his brother Ewald and sister Luise who will miss him dearly. He was born in Cobadin, Romania but called Waldshetten, Germany home up until 1954 when he and his family immigrated to the Calgary area where he met the love of his life, Hilda. They built their lives together and still live in the family home that they bought in 1962. Emanuel was a well-respected construction superintendent who retired after 35 years at Lafarge at the age of 62 years. In his retirement years, he loved to grow his vegetables and tend to mom’s flowers and yard. Aside from his love of fishing, soccer and the Flames, Emanuel became quite well known around the neighbourhood for building the beautiful bird houses that many cherish today. Opa, we will forever miss your love, guidance, caring nature and sense of humor. Rest in peace. A Memorial Service for Emanuel will be held at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 17 Avenue SE) on Thursday November 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Emanuel’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, #200 325 Manning Rd NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5.
