ARROWSMITH, Ethel May (nee Holden) December 4, 1921 May 5, 2012
Ethel was born in Renfrew Country, Ontario on December 4, 1921 and passed away peacefully on May 5, 2012 at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary. Ethel leaves to mourn her loss five daughters, Charlotte (Frank) Caron, Linda (Dave) Dougherty, Audrey Arrowsmith, Mary Jane (Ward) Bicknell, Clara (Mike) Barry and two sons, James (Jean) Arrowsmith and Les Arrowsmith; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and her beloved puppy Shadow. She is also survived by her sister Iva (Mel) Gunderson; her brother Steve (Edith) Holden; numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend Mary Carver from Kelowna, BC. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bert; her daughters Gwen and Marilyn; her son Ryan; as well as three grandsons and one great grandson in infancy. Mom moved to the Castor district at a very young age. She grew up and took all her schooling in Castor, AB. In 1942 she joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWAC) where she met her husband Bert. Once she was discharged, they moved to Turin, AB where they farmed and ranched until 1964. After moving to Calgary, Ethel and Bert were foster parents to many children who needed loving care. One of these children became her third son and one became her nephew. She also belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion, Bowness Branch 238 and the Royal Order of Moose, Bowness Montgomery Branch 1380. “This life for me has truly passed, I have loved you all, to the very last. Weep not for me but courage take, Now love one another for my sake.” Funeral Service to be held Pierson’s Garden of Peace Chapel (243208 Garden Road NE or 16 Ave and Garden Road/100 St NE) on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 11:00 am with interment to follow. The family would like to thank the staff at the Chinook Care Centre for the special care and love shown to our mother.
