Evelyn Myler (Nee Knowles) Melchin

Evelyn Melchin passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the age of 96 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Richard (Catherine) Melchin, Shauna (Terry) Murdock, Robyn (Nyle) Creason, Gregory (Helen) Melchin, Brook (Joy) Melchin, Wade (Kathleen) Melchin and Barbara (Rainer) Nitschke; foster daughter Tina LaRose; 39 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Fred (Doreen) Henderson; and many more family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Elder Gerald Melchin, parents Clarence & Isabelle Knowles, two brothers, five sisters, son-in-law Nyle Creason and grandson Matthew Nitschke, and granddaughters Ann and Sharon Melchin. Evelyn was born in 1923 in Pocatello, Idaho. After attending college she was called on a mission for her church to Ontario and there she met and fell in love with Gerald Melchin, a fellow missionary. After they were married they began their family in Raymond, AB. They felt extremely blessed to have seven children and one foster daughter. Evelyn rejoiced in being a mother. Evelyn also had a talent for creating a beautiful home and was known for her love of rearranging furniture. Evelyn had a beautiful singing voice and touched many hearts as she shared her testimony of Jesus Christ through her music. Serving in the church was an important part of her life as she served in leadership positions and supported her husband as he served in the church as well. Together they presided over the California Arcadia Mission and the Toronto Temple. A Visitation will be held for Evelyn at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – West Stake Center (6560 Silver Springs Crescent NW, Calgary) on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. A Funeral Service will then be held at the same location on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm with visitation from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
