Fred, beloved husband of 64 years to Marlene Hawryluk, passed away peacefully at the Calgary Southwood Hospice with family by his side, following a brave 7 year battle with cancer. His positive and optimistic outlook, even in extreme adversity, was astounding. Fred’s resourcefulness and intuition allowed him to excel in many job opportunities including florist, Rena Ware District Manager, and 23 years as owner of Happyland Shoes. Fred lived a life of service to his family, friends and strangers. As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he and Marlene served together and supported each other in many church service opportunities, including serving at the LDS Calgary Alberta Temple. His passion for gardening, mechanics and his skills as a handyman allowed him to continually come to the rescue of others. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Stella (1927) and Anne (2016), grandson, Ryan Hawryluk (1978). Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife and sweetheart, Marlene; 3 sons Dwayne (Kathy), Darwin (Patti), Jody (Sandra), all of Calgary; 2 daughters Merrilee (Darryl) Reed, of Calgary; Twyla (Mike) Cluster of Ogden, Utah; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister Muriel (Charlie) Pierson as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Forest Lawn Chapel (833 44 St SE, Calgary) on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 11:00 am with Visitation from 10:00 – 10:45 am. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
