Garry Morrison passed away peacefully in his home in Calgary on Saturday, August 27 at the age of 73.
Garry was raised in Shellmouth, Manitoba where he developed a lifelong love of animals, nature and sports. From a young age he was quick to share his humour, joyfulness and cheer with all. He is predeceased by his parents Albert and Dora and his brother Victor.
He married Cheryl Obre in 1974 in Langenburg, Saskatchewan and the couple lived in various locations in Saskatchewan before settling in Estevan where they began raising their sons Andrew and Garret. As a father he was an impeccable example of humility, strength, humour, compassion and curiosity. The family later moved to Calgary where he spent the remainder of his life.
For more than 30 years Garry worked for Sears as a service technician where he was always keen to engage with his customers and provide honest work. He consistently fought for workers’ rights throughout his career. He faced all challenges with unheard of strength and grace.
In recent years Garry took great pride and joy in his granddaughters Olivia and Julia of Winnipeg. From him, they loved learning about gardening, cooking and his life experiences in small town Manitoba.
All those who knew Garry are richer for having experienced his bountiful smile and his genuine curiosity and empathy.
Services will be held in Shellmouth, Manitoba at a date yet to be determined.
