Gerad was born and raised in the Netherlands. At 13 his family came to Canada and made Winnipeg their home. He then came to Calgary which has been his home for the last 40+ years. Gerad loved to help those in need. He volunteered his time making rosaries for the Catholic church and also with CUPS, the Mustard Seed and the Kirby Center. He also dressed up as a clown and visited sick children. He also loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Gerad looked sharp no matter where he went and in his last few years in the care centers did his best to impress the nurses.
Gerad’s family would like to express their gratitude for the kind and compassionate care shown to Gerad while by the staff of both Clifton Manor and Valley View Seniors Lodge.
The family will be holding a service for Gerad officiated by Pastor Colin, please contact them for details. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Gerad may be made to organizations he volunteered for, CUPS Calgary (www.cupscalgary.com) or the Calgary Homeless Foundation (www.calgaryhomeless.com).
