Gernot V. Kiefer

On Monday, May 14, 2018 at the age of 76 years, Gernot passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years Christa; children Ethel (Christopher), Kerstin (Tony) and Sacha (Amanda); grandchildren Jacob (Sarah), Katarina (Cory), Nathaniel, Andrew and Derek; great grandchildren Parker, Anna and Jayda; brother Herwig; sisters Elsbeth (Peter) and Susan (Ron). Gernot was born and raised in Germany, completing his Masters Degree in wood and stone sculpting. He met and fell in love with Christa and together they married and moved their young family to Canada, making Calgary their home. He was known for his deep faith, love for his family and great sense of humor with a laugh that was contagious and easily recognizable in a large crowd. His family and friends will greatly miss the light he brought to their lives through his love and laughter. The family wish to express their appreciation and gratitude to the extraordinary staff in the Hemodialysis units of the Peter Lougheed Hospital and the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre. A Funeral Service will be held for Gernot at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm with a visitation available at 1:00 pm. At Gernot’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army (www.salvationarmy.ca).
