TURNING ROBE, Gertrude “Niipistsa Kii” September 22, 1926 – May 15, 2014
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Gertrude Turning Robe “Niipista Ki” Cloth Woman, who was a lovely mother, grandmother, & Adopted mother to all children who are in contact with her. She passed away peacefully on May 15, 2014 @ the Peter Lougheed Hospital. Gertrude was a kind, loving, compassionate, humble and gentle woman who has gone on to reunite with her husband Charlie Turning Robe. Gertrude was born Siksika Nation by a Mid-Wife, On September 22, 1926. She was the loving mother to her baby Dog Companion Buddy, Elizabeth (Dave), Joan (Charles), Dean, Charlene (Brian Sr) Wycotte, John Yellow Sun (Leslie) and Bobbi Jo. Traditional Adopted children, Robin (Gloria) Big Snake, Justine (Donald) Yellow Fly, Bernedette (Joe) Eagle Bear, Vivian Big Snake, Perry & Vernon Big Snake, Stella T.Robe, Randy (Doreen) T. Robe, Frank (Trina) T. Robe, Rosabelle T. Robe, Ken (Gloria) Bearshirt, Herman (Loreli) Yellow Old Woman, Alvine & Nobert Eagle Speaker, Mark Jr. Wolfleg, Allan Wolfleg, Randy (Doris) Alexander, Ricky (Marion) Bearhat, Jackie Wabasca, Ruth & Francis Melting Tallow, son in law Francis Scalplock. Grandchildren; Tracy (Kalum), Emiline (Ace), Dawn (Cody) Geimausaddle, Brian Jr, Cheyenne, Jesse, Charmaine, Joshua, Christian, Charles (Deidre), Tom (Janeen), Dean P. Great Grandchildren: Dustin (Kaitlyn), Brenna, Thunder, Ashley, Terri-lynn, Layne, Tarrell, Lexie, Madison, Kaitlyn, Dominque, Sade, Ivory, Kiana, Draven, Phoenix, Wyatt, C.J., Gabriel, Kaiya, Darius, T.J., Titus, Sunshine, Cinthia, Shontay, Dominick, Colten, Carmen, Cassandra, Chance. Great great Grandchildren: Nekoli, Angel, Annabelle and Kimzy. Brother Ed (Delores) Soop & Sister Pat Yellow Sun. In her early years Gertrude attended The Crowfoot Residential School, at the age of 16 she left school, she met her husband Charlie and joined the Horn Society, which brought her to believe in her traditions and culture, which she brought up her children to follow the same morals. She upgraded her education at the former, AVC in Calgary, AB. She was employed at the Sunrise Treatment Centre as a Cook. In later life she became a homemaker, as raising her children was very important to her. She also worked alongside her husband, working on a farm. Gertrude enjoyed attending and dancing @ numerous pow wows, square dances, and enjoyed jigging. She loved Country and Western dances. She had great horsemanship and her horse was the ring leader, who herded the other horses into the corral. She really enjoyed family outings of all occasions and made numerous friends of all ages. Gertrude was a strong believer in her Roman Catholic and native traditional practices of her religion. She attended her Cursillo in the early 70’s in Edmonton, AB and attended a trip with Sister Celine to visit in Montreal, Canada, in the early 80’s. Gertrude was predeceased by, her parents Tom & Emily Many Shots, her husband Charlie Turning Robe (1972); her children Charlton (1953) & Roselynn (1954) her brothers and sisters, Helena and James Bearshirt, George Many Shots, Augustine and Leoba Yellow Sun, John Yellow Sun, Rosealma Many Shots (2013), Mary Cutter (2013), Nick & Agnes Smith, Paul & Susie Smith, Frank Sr. & Rose T. Robe. Adopted daughter Geraldine T. Robe (2012), her son in law Stan Gaudry (1998); Nieces & Nephews, Yvonne Many Fires, Bruce M. Fires, Milton M. Fires, Floyd Y. Sun, Winston Y. Sun, Delphine Y. Sun, Fredrick Yellow Fly, Cecil M. Fires, Hazel T. Robe, Rena T. Robe, J. D Big Snake, Janice Grey Eyes, Darlene T. Robe, Robert T.Robe, George Jr. T. Robe, Lily Yellow Sun, Betty Many Shots, Thomas Y. Sun & Louis Many Shots & Freddy Mayfield. Grandchilden; Vivian Y. Sun (1997), Lindsey Y. Sun (1997), Kimberly Y. Sun (2004), Zennon M. Shots (2010), Vernon Raw Eater, Precious T. Robe (2004), Amber T. Robe (2008), Lance All Runner (2010) her beloved companion dog Tiny T. Robe. Her extended family The Harrisons, First Riders, Gallegos, Mistaken Chiefs, Chief Bodies, Bearshirts, Maguires, Yellow Suns, Many Shots, Smiths (peigan), Big Snakes, Sunwalks, Rabbit Carriers, Littlelights, Bear Hats, Yellow Old Womans, & Many Fires, the family apologizes for anyone we have missed. A special Thank you to the Peter Lougheed Emergency and the PLC ICU. And a special thanks to the Elbow River Healing Lodge & Elders Lodge and Home Care Siksika. Wake Services will be held on Wednesday May 21, 2014, for the family @ 1:00 pm at the Residence of Joan Turning Robe in Siksika Nation, for the public @ 6:00 pm at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour. Church Services will be held on Thursday May 22, 2014 @ The Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Cluny, AB @ 3:00 pm. Memorial Urn Services will be held at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with interment of cremated remains to follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
