Gillian Klingvall passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the age of 81 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Peter (Kirsten) and Kate; grandchildren, Clara, Keana and Lexi; grand-furbabies, Cheddar, Kingston and Kenzo; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Lindsey; nieces, Victoria, Sally, Lucy, Claire; nephew, Michael; along with extended family in Calgary and the UK. Gillian is predeceased by her husband, Eivind; and brothers, Bruce and Robin.
Gillian was born in Withernsea, Yorkshire, England to Michael and Florence Nettleton. She was the eldest of three growing up on the family farm. As a young adult, she made the brave decision to move to Montreal, Canada where she took up work as a caregiver for a family. While attending Polytechnique Montreal, she met her husband, Eivind who was also a student. In 1965, they married in the UK then the couple moved to Calgary to begin work and start their family. Gillian was a wonderfully involved mother working and volunteering within Peter and Kate’s schools. Her volunteerism expanded to so many organizations including The Mustard Seed, Vertigo and Lunchbox Theatres, her community garden and especially her church – Crossroads Community Church. She’s put together hundreds of brown bag lunches and organized many community dinners. She just wanted to be always useful. She gave much of her time and energy serving those in need and she was happy to do it. Gillian was not only humble, caring and generous, she was also sassy, fun and quirky. She possessed a dynamic personality. She will be missed by so many.
