Gillian Olive Taylor

December 8, 1946 — February 1, 2015

Jill Taylor passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the age of 68 years. Jill was born in Shaunovan, SK and taken home to the family farm in a sleigh pulled by a tractor. She was married in Simmie, SK and together they moved to Gull Lake, Bowen Island, settling in Calgary in 1973. Jill became a single mom, raising Barry and Debbie on her own. She was joined by George Price for 20 happy years until he passed away. In 1999, Jill married Jack Taylor, who predeceased her in 2007. Jill was a loyal employee of Harris Rebar for over 30 years, retiring in 2011. She enjoyed her occasional vacations and also loved short day trips. The Royal Canadian Legion Forest Lawn Branch 275 was an important part of her life where she had many friends and volunteered extensively. Jill had a fondness for animals, enjoying her cats. She was generous, kind, giving, independent, willing to listen and was a straight shooter. She was mindful of those around her and could always be counted on to help. She is dearly loved by her family and friends. She leaves to mourn: her son and daughter-in-law Barry McCarty & Gali Bar and their children Gideon and Miriam all of Vancouver; her daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Michael Arbic of Calgary; and siblings Desmond McCarty (Judy) of Taber, AB, Leonard McCarty of Taber and Yvonne Koshlay (Mike) of Cranbrook, BC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jill was predeceased by her parents Clifford and Winifred McCarty. In keeping with Jill’s wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in the spring.
