Gloria Beaton passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, February 11, 2023 with her best friend and companion John Scharmer by her side. Gloria was born in Kingston, Ontario and raised on a hobby farm on Highway 15 that backed onto the Rideau Canal. As a child, she loved feeding her wild pets right out of her hand, including skunks “Kruschev” and “Castro”, wild ducks “Donald” and “Daisy”, chickens, cats and dogs. She also loved the sunfish from the Rideau Canal. Gloria came to Calgary with her family at age 13 and went to St. Joseph’s and then graduated from St. Francis High.
Gloria’s career in Oil & Gas lead her to positions in Procurement at Suncor. She excelled in her role and after many years at Suncor was very proud to end her career as a “Senior Expeditor” in project management engineering consulting firms. Gloria met her best friend, loving companion & soul mate, John Scharmer while working at Suncor. Their first date was on her birthday November 28, 1993, which began a life of laughter and adventure. Of their many vacations, she and John loved the Empress Hotel in Victoria, The Banff Springs, Prince of Wales in Waterton as well as locations in Florida, California, Mexico, the UK, Tofino, Vancouver, Okanagan, central Canada and the East Coast. Here in Calgary, they enjoyed date night every Thursday at MacDonald’s in Mount Pleasant, where they both went for Big Macs in high school, before they knew each other.
Gloria loved her flowers and was particularly fond of roses and irises. Any special event was something to celebrate and she looked forward to them all including birthday, anniversaries and all the Stampeding activities in July. Her favourites holidays were Christmas and Halloween where she would win first prize in displays for best decorated home in the community. Gloria was a great animal lover, something that continued from her childhood. She had that special way and affection for kitty cats, doggies, birdies, helmet crabs and a variety of other creatures. She was very kind, passionate, caring and loving person with a smile that was worth a million bucks.
