Helen Jean Draper

IIt is with sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Draper, mother, grandmother and friend, on September 12, 2018 at the age of 88 years. She leaves to mourn her passing sons Brian (Susan) and Dale (Maha); daughter-in-law Judi Draper; grandchildren Bradley, Jeff (Trisha), Robyn, Marie and Spencer; sister Donna (Larry) Reimond; neice Laura Ann Vanderlinde (Lance) and their children Ashlyn, Alysha and Scott (Heather); brother Robert (Julia) Hepburn and their family; step-daughters Janet (David) Comb, Marjorie (Ted) Kerrison; step-sons Kenneth Draper and Neil (Glenda) Draper and families; and many more family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents William & Pauline Hepburn, older brother Lloyd Hepburn, youngest son and good friend Douglas Draper and her dear husband Lloyd Draper. Helen was born in Lloydminster, SK on February 4, 1930. In 1943 her family moved to Edmonton where she attended Rutherford School, King Edward Junior High and Old “Scona” High School. After finishing school she worked for the Canadian Bank of Commerce. Through most of her working years she worked for Kingsway Freightliners where she met and made many dear friends. In 1958 Helen married Lloyd Draper and in August of 1959 they moved to Calgary. She loved all people, especially children. She was a very outgoing friendly person full of love, especially for her grandchildren. They took her on the greatest adventures she ever had, with their sports activities, music recitals, horseback training classes and school band concerts. Helen loved to sew, bake, knit, read and do crafts with her grandkids, especially her only granddaughter Marie who learned to sew, bake, knit and houseclean with “Gram.” She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and willingly served in many different callings. Her most passionate calling was that of a visiting teacher. A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Parkland Chapel (14540 Parkland Blvd. SE, Calgary) on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:00 am. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Foothills Country Hospice Society (www.countryhospice.org).
