It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear brother and cousin Hong Viet Nguyen on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the vibrant age of 36 years.
Hong was born in Hong Kong on September 28, 1979 and immigrated to Calgary when he was just one year old. In his school years, he developed interests in mechanics and construction, skills that he later used to help many of his appreciative family and friends. Most recently, he worked as a merchandiser for Frito Lay Canada and enjoyed the interactions with grocers and customers. In his spare time, Hong enjoyed cooking, gardening, spending time with his beloved dog Turbo, planning home renovations, watching his favourite sit-coms, and visiting with his extended family. His sense of humour and willingness to listen helped to cultivate instant bonds and many enduring friendships.
Hong is survived by his brother Thuan and sister-in-law Juan, nephews Jonny and Lucas, cousins Leha, Tony, Leslie, Tim, Dan and Chi, and uncles Minh and Hau, all of Calgary. Hong now peacefully rests in Heaven with his dear mother Lan Kim Nguyen, father Thieu Doan Nguyen, third aunt Phuong Kim Nguyen and first aunt Ngoc Kim Nguyen. They all join Hong’s maternal grandmother Mai Thi Linh and grandfather Lam Dinh Nguyen in eternal peace.
His extended family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre’s dialysis clinic for their tremendous support in providing Hong the care and comfort over the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to a remembrance service at Pierson’s Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue S.E. Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 13 at 2:00pm with interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
