It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Hope on Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 68.
Born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Dennis moved to Calgary, in 1992 with his wife, Paulette, and their two children, Jeffrey and Lara. From that day on, Calgary became his beloved home. In 1990, he found employment with Totem Building Supplies (Lowes), where he worked until retirement in 2020. His retirement years were a delightful mix of joy and excitement as he juggled his time between visiting his adored granddaughter, Serena, and reliving his teenage years as a professional basement video-gamer.
Creating a loving home was always Dennis’s top priority, a place that served as a lively hub for friends and family. His children fondly recall his infectious humour and how he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. His sense of humor was as impressive as his love for travel, and he had a special place in his heart for Las Vegas and their slot machines.
His departure came too soon, interrupting his plans to move back to Saskatchewan to be closer to family. Although he won’t have the chance to rock his scoot boots while speeding up and down the streets on a new scooter, his family is certain that in heaven, he will create another loving hub where they are sure to see him again. .
Dennis is survived by his wife, Paulette Hope; daughter, Lara Curry (Delaney); granddaughter, Serena Curry; sister, Elaine (Art); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Hope; brother, Glen Hope; mother, Joan Hope; father, George Hope; and his favourite niece, Tracy Fink.
Heartfelt thanks to the entire ICU team at Peter Lougheed Center. A special thanks to Dr. Michael Chiu for his impeccable care and compassionate guidance at this very difficult time.
