Iona Colleen Shirin Naqshbandi
August 11, 1939 — October 21, 2023
Iona Naqshbandi passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the age of 84 years.
Though Mom was born in the US, she considered Canada as her adopted country. Her family moved from Arkansas when she was little. She was raised in New Mexico and Arizona. She moved to Canada in September 1961 to marry our father, David Graham Lund, bringing a baby and little boy with her, forced to leave a toddler behind with his father.
The youngest of six children – five daughters and one son, all predeceased, Colleen was especially close to her father and her brother. Her next great love had to be her children and grandchildren. Colleen had eight children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She embraced her in-law side of the family as well. They all mourn the passing of their ‘auntie’.
Colleen shared a passion for genealogy with her mother and spent many hours collecting and submitting information about her family and our father’s family. Quilting and crocheting were her loves. She also loved to write, and lamented that she could not do so in her later years. She enjoyed teaching and giving talks, too. Her skill with languages amazed everyone.
Mom always loved the gospel and did her best to stay on the path. Upon her arrival in the spirit world, we are certain the angels cried for joy.
A Funeral Service will be held for Colleen at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Panorama Chapel (155 Panamount Blvd NW, Calgary) on Friday October 27, 2023 at 12:00 pm.
