James Cyril Smith

Jim Smith passed away on Sunday September 12, 2021 at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; daughters, Susan (Ben) & Norma-Jean (Wayne); 4 grandchildren, Wayne (Kylee), Chris (Emily), Jamal (Jenna) & Dondre (Madison); 2 great grandchildren, Mason & Conner; sister, Diane (Derek); along with numerous family in Canada, Australia and England. He is predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Elizabeth Smith; and sisters, Betty, Dorothy & Barbara.

Jim was born in London, England and immigrated to Canada when he was in his early 20’s. He met Betty and they were married in 1962. He and Betty traveled extensively to all corners of the world. They generously opened their home to international exchange students. Jim loved spending time with his grandkids, dirt biking (which he did into his 70’s) and hockey – especially watching his grandchildren play. He was a long time member of the Rotary Club of East Calgary.

A Memorial Service for Jim will be held at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Friday October 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The Smith family reminds all guests that they must be vaccinated against CoVid to attend.
