John Derryll Boss

J. Derryll Boss passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the age of 75 years.

Derryll is survived by a daughter Jacki Boss of Freeport, Bahamas; son Darren Boss (Joy) of Calgary; and granddaughter, Raven. He is also survived by a brother Ian Boss of Napa Valley, California; and two sisters Marilyn Jenkinson (Dwight) of Sundre, AB and Avril Boss of Calgary. Derryll was predeceased by his wife Arlene Boss on October 8, 2021.

Derryll was born and raised in Calgary. As a child he enjoyed a good joke and some Tom foolery, characteristics which he never outgrew. He was known to have a bit of a stubborn streak in him which could be seen in debates of all kinds. He especially loved a good bargain and would make a game out of negotiating a good price on anything, especially cars, regardless of whether he intended on making a purchase. Having a good time was part of his make up and he loved playing, competing and cheating at any board game, especially Crib. While a bit of a S**t disturber, he was also hugely kind, helpful and generous, willing to give others the shirt off his back. He was especially caring of Arlene (our wonderful mother) during her failing years of health. Beneath his somewhat crusty exterior, he was all love. We will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Service for Derryll will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00 am at Pierson’s Funeral Home, 4121 – 17 Avenue SE with a light reception to follow. A graveside inurnment will then follow at the Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery.
