John Sytsema passed away after a short illness at Southwood Hospice in Calgary on Sunday, December 8, 2024. He was 68 years of age.
John will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Stephanie Sytsema (Brent Church); two grandchildren, Eve & Travis Schneider; brothers, Andy Sytsema (Robin Schmidt) and Gary Sytsema; along with his nieces, Deanne (Sal) Mancuso, Emma Simmelink, Ava & Camille Mancuso. He is predeceased by his parents, Helen and Harry Sytsema; sister, Jenny Desrochers and brother-in-law, Jeff Desrochers.
John was born in Steins, the Netherlands on September 1, 1956 before immigrating to Canada in 1958. He grew up in the Millican Ogden area of Calgary. He was active in sports like baseball, golf and fishing but he was especially skilled at hustling pool! John worked at Hunting Oilfield Services for over 30 years where he made many lifelong friends. He retired in 2019. Just recently, he moved to Becker Manor where he made many new friends.

A Celebration of John's Life will be held at the Millican Ogden Community Association (2110 - 69 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Tuesday December 17 from 1:30pm - 3:30pm.
