June Mary Cobb (Nee Turney-White)

June 1, 1933 — June 5, 2023

June Mary Cobb (nee Turney-White), born June 1, 1933, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the age of 90, surrounded by family.

June is survived by her children, Gillian (Paul) Heninger, Howard (Judith) Cobb, Tracy (Nicholas) Cobb-Reeves, Nathan (Natalie) Cobb, and Jeremy (Kerri) Cobb, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many loving extended family members.

She was predeceased by her loving, lifelong husband Charles Cobb, married 66 years, and by her sisters Queenie and Katherine, and her brothers, Doug and Norman. She is survived by her step-brother David (Anne) Major.

Mom was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England. As a young child she lived in Withernsea, Yorkshire, before her family moved back to Hull when she was 11. She grew up during and in the aftermath of World War II, later apprenticing and working as a hairdresser before meeting Charlie, who was then serving in the Royal Navy. Soon after marrying each other, she and Charlie moved their young family from Hull, England to Calgary, Canada in 1957, when mom was 24, with two young children in tow, leaving all she knew behind to make a new life in a new world.

In 1973, June started learning all she could about herbs and iridology. As a master herbalist for 50 years, Mom’s devotion to serving others made a difference in the lives of countless individuals in helping them improve their health and well-being. She was an intuitive healer; a wise friend; a teacher; a business owner; a traveller; a sought-after key-note speaker at conferences; and was known from coast-to-coast. Later in her career, she was honored to receive a special award from Nature’s Sunshine for the number of people she influenced and taught about herbs in multiple countries.

Mom was an exemplar, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, a lover of laughter and music and dancing and social gathering. She loved hosting parties and chatting and getting to know people. June had a knack for making holidays feel special. She had unending energy and loved to serve her family. She was always busy and active, whether it was in her garden, the kitchen, her office, or visiting and helping her children. She loved the theatre and performed often with her husband, Charlie, in well-known musicals in the Jubilee Auditorium and amateur theatre year after year in Calgary. Mom was known for her grit, determination and courage. She was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, who loved her family and believed in the value and central importance of family.

She always said she wanted to live to be 90 and she passed away five days after her 90

th

birthday. We will remember her for her kind and gentle ways, her laughter, her warm smile that always made you feel cared for, her sing-song voice, and her unconditional love. She was a light in our lives, someone who most of all liked to spend time with family. We will miss you dearly mom.
