Junior Lloyd Barnes passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the age of 53 years.
Junior was born on April 11, 1969, in Spanish Town, Jamaica and immigrated to Calgary, Alberta Canada in 1982 at the age of 13 years.
He graduated from Father Lacombe High School and then went on a work program to learn to repair vacuums. When he wasn’t working, he pursued his passion for music and became a successful music producer. He owned his own studio and worked with a lot of popular local artists, as well as other famous artists and DJ’s from all over the world. Although music was his first love, he also had a mechanic shop to buy, fix, and sell cars.
Junior loved his family and friends and enjoyed when they were together. He was an honest, straight-forward man to all he met. He was a great mentor, an awesome listener, loved to make other people laugh as he cracked jokes. He was a legend in his own special way. He was our big teddy bear.
In his youth, he took part in breakdancing competitions, and he always found time in his busy schedule to teach children how to breakdance. It was amazing to watch him in the middle of everything, often holding everyone up like a human windmill. He sang old songs and knew every word. He loved Martial Arts and earned his black belt, he played guitar, and football in high school.
In 2015, Junior was diagnosed with Diabetes. He endured multiple dialysis treatments each week. After one particular treatment, Junior had a terrible fall that led to a serious spine surgery and a long stay at Foothills Medical Centre. He was now paralyzed from the waist-down. During his stay in the hospital, he had a local Seventh-day Adventist pastor visit him regularly. He completed several Bible studies and surrendered his heart to the Lord. By profession of faith, he joined the Bridgeland Seventh-day Adventist Church where his mother also attended. In 2017, he moved into the Fanning Centre. His mother visited him often, and never missed a Sabbath opportunity visit, share laughs, pray with him, and answer any of his questions about God and the Bible. As he grew stronger in his faith and by his mother’s example of prayer, he developed his own prayer life. Junior lived the rest of his life at the Fanning Centre where he was surrounded by love and care of others, whom he also loved and cared for.
Junior will be dearly missed by his mom, Jean Chung; two daughters, Alycia McCarthy and Ruthanne Brown; sisters, Angela Smith and Debran Kinlock; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; as well as his goddaughter, Jenna Rosas. Junior was predeceased by his father, Winston Chung.
