Katherine Dorothy Wellman, B.A., LLB, KC, age 84, died on Tuesday, 23 April 2024, in Calgary, AB, with her family at her side.
Katherine was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She graduated from the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan in 1963 as one of only three women in the entire college! Katherine then moved to Regina to practice corporate law, eventually becoming General Counsel for SaskPower for many years. Her passion for law drew her to teach law at the University of Regina School of Engineering. For a semi-retirement, she and Roy moved to Vancouver, B.C., where Katherine taught law at several community colleges. A great lover of dogs, she became an avid breeder of Tibetan Terriers. Once fully retired, Katherine became a keen Mah-jong player and enjoyed aquacise. Most notable was her kindly manner and her love for friends and her family. She was always ready to help if she could and had a passion for justice first.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing PLC teams in the ER and units 29 and 38 for their kind and compassionate care. Their dedication and professionalism during this difficult time was truly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
Katherine was predeceased by her husband Roy; her parents, John and Rosa; an infant sister, Mary Hedwiga, sister Rita and her husband Rex, and sister-in-law, Germaine. She is survived by her loving son, Michael (Tanya); her granddaughter, Serenity (Jordan); brother, Frank; several nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends. Her memory will forever be cherished.
Her Funeral Service will be held at Highwood Lutheran Church, 419 Northmount Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, 2 May 2024, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Pierson’s Funeral Home has been handling funeral preparations.
